Gene was a faithful supporter of a number of organizations, including the Church Health Center, MIFA, the Mid-South Food Bank, and Second Presbyterian Church. Gene left a bequest in his will of approximately $300,000 to a donor-advised fund as a way to continue supporting those organizations he felt were doing valuable work. He stipulated that the funds be paid out over a five-year period. In his will, he also bequeathed $30,000 to the Community Foundation to establish donor-advised funds for each of his three daughters, carrying on a legacy of family philanthropy.
It is easy to make a bequest in your will to a named fund at the Community Foundation. Over the years, Gene would notify us of revisions to the organizations and amounts he wished to support. It was far more convenient and cost-effective for him to alter his giving plan by communicating with the Community Foundation rather than changing his will each time.
